DevPulse
Developer news from five sources in one feed, with AI summaries.
- 5news sources in one feed
- 10serverless functions
- 5models in the AI router
- 1 hAI response cache
The problem
Keeping up with developer news means checking Hacker News, Dev.to, Lobsters, GitHub Trending and AI news one site at a time, then reading long articles to find out whether they matter.
What I built
DevPulse puts those sources into one reader. Any story can get an instant AI summary, and the app can turn top stories into short generated articles.
- One feed across five sources, with source filters.
- On-demand AI summaries and trend analysis.
- A scheduled job that runs every six hours, finds top stories that have not been covered yet, and generates articles for them.
- Installable as a web app, with a service worker.
How it works
- No framework on the front end. Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript talk to
/api/*routes that Netlify maps to serverless functions, one per source plus summarise, generate, articles and status. - An AI router built for free tiers. The summarise function rotates across Gemini models and several API keys, tracks a per-key request budget with a cooldown after rate-limit errors, and falls back to Groq-hosted Llama models. Responses are cached for an hour.
- Storage without a database. Generated articles live in Netlify Blobs, which keeps the backend serverless.
